Welcome to Screen Icons - an icon challenge community!

This is an icon making challenge based on using screen captures.

Most challenges will be based on screen caps posted by the mods at the multi-fandom daily screen caps blog

capspiration / capspiration.

This community is a spin-off and reboot of the LJ icontest community

capicontest / capicontest.

Community & Challenge Info

Challenges may vary and may be themed (color palettes, techniques, etc.) or not themed, depending what the particular challenge admin or host sets up for the the round.

There will be three kinds or "modes" of challenges. Perhaps more, to be decided by admin later.
When a challenge is in a special mode or not, it will be stated in the challenge post by the challenge admin.

Challenge Modes

Mode 1: Original Mode

The original concept for Capicontest.

No outside screen captures or images are allowed in challenge entry icons.
Participants must use only the screen caps supplied and/or linked from Capspiration's posts to make their icons.

Mode 1-CC: Capspiration Combo Mode

As in Mode 1, no outside images are allowed in challenge entry icons.
You are allowed to use any post at

capspiration with time stamps/dates from before the current challenge times, but only in combination with the current challenge posts (by using multiple images in one icon). The dates of the posts allowed for combo mode will be stated in the challenge rules.

This is optional. People may always choose to participate only in original mode.

Mode 2: Caps Plus or Combo Mode

Using additional screen caps is allowed to combine with the supplied challenge images.
Icons entered must use the supplied screen caps from Capspiration's posts, but participants are allowed to add screen caps of their own from the same subject fandoms to make image blends or any techniques to combine into icons with the Capspiration screen caps.
This is optional. People may always choose to participate only in original mode.
No outside images from other subjects or fandom topics.

Mode 3: Original + Artist's Choice Caps

Use x-number of screen captures from the Capspiration posts to make icons and then use x-number of outside screen caps of your choice.
This mode is the only one that allows participants to use their own choice of outside screen caps that are of outside fandom subjects.
Usually this option will be for themed challenges.
No one is required to find their own screen caps, it is optional. People may always chose to do challenges in Mode 1.
The artist's choice screen caps fandom subjects can be anything whether they are fandom subjects that have been posted at Capspiration or that have never posted there before.
Artist's choice images must be made of screen caps (TV, movie, music video or video game screenshots).
No stock photo, celeb or fashion magazine photography etc. icons are allowed as artist's choice.
Artist's choice screen caps must be linked to in the post along with the artist's choice icons.

Themed and Non-Themed Challenges

A themed challenge requires you to use both the supplied screen caps and a theme given by the admin/mod.
A non-themed challenges requires only using the supplied screen caps.
Sometimes challenges may be a mix of both - complete an x-number of icons to fit the theme and make an x-number of icons non-themed.

General Rules

Rules for Entries

Icons must fit the DreamWidth userpic standards: No bigger than 100x100 pixels, 60 KB file size, in either PNG, JPG or GIF format.
Icons must new, original for the challenge and not made for other communities or challenges before entered here.

How To Enter
You must be a member of the community to make a post and enter.
Post your entries directly to the community.
You may make edits or changes to your entries until the challenge is closed.

Voting and Results:

At the end of a regular, competition challenge, if there are enough entries, people will vote on a number of icons in a poll to determine the challenge winners.
Anyone can vote, but please don't ask people to vote for your specific icons.
Please don't vote for your own icons or use sock puppet accounts to do so.
The first place icon will be uploaded as the community icon for the following challenge period.
Special challenges, such as icon set challenges, may have a different voting & winners system (TBA).

screen_icons community guidelines & rules for the challenges are determined by the community administrators & individual challenge mods/co-mods.
